Submitted to Dr. Jennifer Fain-Thornton for Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 (BIOL-210)
Summary:
The signature assignment for this class discussed the process of decay, along with the chemical and structural components of bone. It also included a short career-based research section in which possible careers were discussed involving the material in the paper.
General Education Connections
- Communicate ideas in written, oral and other modes as appropriate to a situation and audience
- Apply quantitative and scientific reasoning skills relevant to a field of study
- Employ various thinking strategies to develop well-reasoned judgments
- Evaluate sources of information for accuracy, relevance and reliability
- Use technology tools to manage, integrate and evaluate digital information
When writing a paper, I am more English-minded, meaning I am able to write in a way to connect to the reader. When writing a scientific paper, the diction and structure of the paper needs to be formal and more direct. Writing papers in different formats helps me expand my capabilities as a writer. So many sources are not credible and can give false information. Being able to evaluate a source and prove its credibility was key in writing a sound research paper to make sure all the facts were correct while being able to expand upon a question or prompt.
Challenges
The one challenge during the signature assignment was being able to take all the information from the class and apply it to a real-world scenario. Working in the medical field already helped me get an understanding of why we need to know what we know about the body in order to help someone who is in pain.
Application
I am looking to apply to the PTA program, and understanding the bones and various parts of the body will help me succeed not only in the program but beyond in a career setting.
