Disability Stigma in Russia Versus the United States

My signature assignment consists largely of material that is based on opinion and is not necessarily completely factual. Throughout writing this assignment, I took extra care to ensure I did not include material that was inaccurate or offensive.

Challenges

Few challenges arose in completing this assignment. I had expected that I would be unable to access enough material because of past Soviet suppression. I was surprised at the vast amount of information on disability bias in Russia. My greatest challenge was deciding what material would serve as relevant and accurate sources for my paper.

Application

I studied nursing at a four-year college and now at Carroll. For over a decade, I have worked with physically and intellectually disabled people at my church. I have personally observed how well and how poorly people have treated them. From my experience and in writing this paper, I believe that people treat them poorly predominantly because of their own ignorance.
