Starting a business takes passion, expertise, and determination—but even the most driven entrepreneurs can hit roadblocks when it comes to logistics and planning. For Julie Tarlow, owner of Core Confidence Pelvic Health & Wellness, those challenges were exactly why she turned to Miller: Resources for Entrepreneurs for guidance.

Turning a Passion into a Business

With a background in marketing and a Master’s degree in occupational therapy, Julie was no stranger to business and healthcare. However, her passion for pelvic health stemmed from a personal realization: there was a significant gap in the quality and availability of services for women, especially during pregnancy and postpartum.

“I wanted to start this business to provide women with the type of care I wish women received before and after birth and beyond,” Julie explains. “For me, this means accessible and holistic pelvic health that blurs the lines between traditional and alternative medical approaches.”

With this mission in mind, she launched Core Confidence, focusing on pelvic health, wellness, and education. However, like many entrepreneurs, she soon found herself overwhelmed by the operational aspects of running a business.

On some calls [with Miller] I learned huge pivotal things, and sometimes a conversation only placed a tiny idea or tidbit in my head that was not there before—but those add up, and I wouldn’t have otherwise been offered that advice!

Finding Clarity with Miller

Julie had the vision and drive but found herself stuck when it came to executing a clear business plan. “I had a lot of ideas and a long-term vision that I was really passionate about but got stuck on some of the logistics and making a clear plan to achieve these goals,” she shares. “I didn’t realize how much time and work would have to go into the business side of things in order to be ready to provide clients with the best care.”

That’s when she discovered Miller through an ad in Carroll Community College’s non-credit class catalog. After booking a consultation with them, she quickly realized the value of their mentorship and resources.

“Miller helped me address these challenges by encouraging me to write a formal business plan for Core Confidence Pelvic Health & Wellness and providing me the templates and mentorship to do so,” Julie says. “They helped me streamline my thoughts and put them onto paper so that I could create achievable goals with clear timelines.”

A Resource for Every Stage of Business Growth

Julie’s relationship with Miller didn’t end after her initial planning stages. “They have helped me with business planning, but I was also able to reach out about how to initiate a legal contract, which made me feel confident with a logistic for which I had no experience,” she says.

In fact, Miller bolstered Julie’s confidence enough for her to enter the 2024 Carroll Biz Challenge, for which she was chosen as one of five finalists out of dozens of applicants. Tom Mazerski, Director of Miller, coached her on how to compellingly pitch her business idea to the event judges. (You can watch her presentation below.)

For other business owners considering Miller’s services, Julie has one piece of advice: just start.

“You lose nothing by scheduling an initial consultation, and you will learn about all kinds of offerings that aren’t advertised on the Miller website!” she says. “On some calls I learned huge pivotal things, and sometimes a conversation only placed a tiny idea or tidbit in my head that was not there before—but those add up, and I wouldn’t have otherwise been offered that advice!”

For Julie Tarlow and Core Confidence Pelvic Health & Wellness, Miller provided more than just business planning—they offered clarity, confidence, and a support system for long-term success. “I don’t know what specific challenges may arise in the future, but I am thankful to know I could reach out to them with any detail of business for assistance!”
