Maryland State Highway Administration
A mutual professional relationship with Business Solutions led to impactful custom training developed for new employees, new supervisors and senior leadership at Maryland State Highway Administration.
The Client:
Employing more than 2,500 people, the Maryland State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is the state organization responsible for maintaining Maryland’s numbered highways outside of Baltimore. It is tasked with maintaining non-tolled/free bridges throughout the state, removing snow from the state’s major thoroughfares, administering the state’s “Adopt-a-Highway” program, and both developing and maintaining the state’s freeway/expressway system.
The Challenge:
The Organizational Development Division of MDOT SHA identified a great need for cross-departmental training and development, and partnered with Business Solutions to create custom training programs to serve various employee populations. MDOT SHA-tailored initiatives included a series of trainings for those new to MDOT SHA and/or new to supervising, and a 12-month executive-level training and development program.
The Results:
MDOT SHA’s reported outcomes include employees—at all levels—being equipped with the leadership skills necessary to effectively fulfill their roles upon program completion, in addition to ongoing internal enrollment to each initiative.
