Clearing the Path to a 4-Year School with Transfer Plus
As easy as 2 goes into 4, Transfer Plus makes the transition from Carroll Community College to a 4-year school a simple, seamless process.
Transfer Plus, Carroll’s Dual Admissions partnerships with select 4-year schools, offers Carroll students guaranteed admission and transfer of all their credits to the partner school after they graduate from Carroll with their Associate degree. Carroll students can also register at the partner school at the same time as high school juniors do, helping ensure they get the classes they need when they enter a Bachelor’s program at the partner school.
Current partner schools include:
- McDaniel College
- University of Baltimore
- University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC)
- University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC)
Carroll Inks Agreement with UMBC
University of Maryland, Baltimore County is the most recent 4-year school to officialize a new dual admissions agreement with Carroll Community College. Carroll’s President Dr. James Ball and UMBC President Dr. Valerie Sheares Ashby signed the “Memorandum of Understanding” on April 10, 2024 during a ceremony held on Carroll’s campus.
“Carroll and UMBC are both devoted to student success, and this is just another way for us to offer the students more opportunities to realize their dreams,” said Dr. Ball. “Both of our campuses attract students who want to focus on quality education, career-oriented majors and opportunities to grow in their chosen profession and explore their passions.”
“UMBC’s partnership with Carroll Community College reaffirms our commitment to the recruitment, enrollment and graduation of transfer students,” said Dr. Sheares Ashby. “By building on successful programs like Transfer Plus, we can, together, make the very best education accessible to every student who desires it.”
A Smooth & Streamlined Process
One Carroll student who will benefit from the Transfer Plus program is Priscilla Davis, who will transfer to UMBC after earning her Associate degree at Carroll in Social Work.
While attending a Career Fair at Carroll, Priscilla had the opportunity to speak with a UMBC representative, who gave her insight into the Social Work program at UMBC. That conversation, along with the transfer agreement, changed the trajectory of her higher education goals.
“UMBC stood out to me as a university with a strong reputation for its Social Work program,” Priscilla explained. “The transfer process from Carroll to UMBC has been smooth and streamlined, thanks to the new Transfer Plus program. This program has provided valuable support and guidance throughout the transfer process, making it easier for students like me to transition smoothly from a community college to a 4-year university.”
Everyone from both schools has been so helpful and encouraging.
Additional Plusses of Transfer Plus
There are several added perks for those taking advantage of the Transfer Plus program. For example, students transferring from Carroll will have the partner school’s application fee waived.
Other benefits offered through the Transfer Plus program include:
- Pre-transfer advising from both schools.
- Assistance with the application process.
- Carroll students receive a partner school ID, allowing them to participate in partner school events.
“I think the greatest benefit of Transfer Plus is the one-on-one academic planning and assistance that students receive from Advising staff both at Carroll and the 4-year partner school,” said Melanie Dunn, Assistant Director of Advising & Transfer at Carroll. “It’s like having a personal guide throughout the transfer process.”
“With this new agreement, we’re ensuring that these students’ college experience is reflective of their commitment to higher education,” stated Dr. Ball. “It’s seamless, efficient and puts them on the right track for a great outcome!”
