Alex Schmidt: Military to GED to Carroll Graduate
Alex Schmidt is an adult learner who graduated from Carroll in May 2015 with an associate degree. He is now taking additional Carroll classes to prepare for transferring to University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) next year.
As a member of the Maryland Army National Guard, he started basic training about two years ago and received satellite communications systems operations/maintenance training. He works one weekend a month with the National Guard and two weeks during the summer. He just completed his summer assignment in Fort Pickett, VA.
Schmidt’s path then brought him to Carroll’s GED program, where he completed the program in a short amount of time. “I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed studying again, since high school was not an enjoyable experience for me. I gained momentum to keep studying, thanks to the encouragement of my instructors.”
