Carroll’s Associates in Accounting program prepares students to transfer seamlessly to a 4-year college/university or to qualify for paraprofessional positions in accounting offices of business and governmental agencies.

About the Program

With an emphasis on established accounting principles, the Associates in Accounting Concentration in our Business Administration program offers students the most comprehensive knowledge and skills. They learn accounting principles with extensive use of technology and apply this knowledge through coursework on law, economics and financial statements.

In addition to acquiring a basic knowledge of accounting, graduates of this program will be able to perform bookkeeping and entry-level accounting work through the general ledger and prepare financial statements and managerial reports.

  • Accounting majors with a 3.0 GPA may be eligible for membership in Alpha Beta Gamma, a national business honor society.

Career

For those who have already attained a Bachelor’s degree, the College prepares them for the CPA examination through the CPA Certificate program.

Accountants and auditors can expect a healthy job market over the course of the next decade, according to a 2016 report by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, with faster than average projected job growth of 10%.

Every business class I took at Carroll encouraged participation in and out of the class. Through my Accounting course, I was able to train and join Carroll’s Volunteer Income Tax Preparation program.

    Marlene Titus

    Program Dir/Assistant Professor - Business and Accounting

    Marlene has a Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Loyola College (now known as Loyola University, Baltimore). She practiced law in the areas of corporate/business/bankruptcy and general litigation. Marlene's held positions at Carroll Community College in the non-credit Miller Center for Small Business, and as the Navigator and adjunct faculty in the Cybersecurity department. She's been an adjunct faculty member since 2015, teaching courses in business and business law.​
  • Jonathan Boyle

    Assistant Professor - Business and Accounting

    Jonathan Boyle has a B.A. in History from John Carroll University and an M.B.A. in Management and Marketing from the University of Toledo. For 18 years, he has taught a variety of online and face-to-face business courses at higher education institutions located in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. In 2019, Jonathan started as a full-time faculty at Carroll teaching courses in Business.​

    Margo Chaney

    Associate Professor - Business and Technology

    Margo Chaney Adkins earned a B.S. in Management Information Systems and a M.Ed. in Post-Secondary Education from Salisbury University. She was author and editor of the Pearson "Skills for Success" series for 2013, 2016 and 2019 editions. Since 2005, Margo has taught and created curriculum for online, hybrid and self-directed formats at Carroll Community College. Prior to Carroll, she taught IT and software courses at Anne Arundel and Wor-Wic Community Colleges. She also has fifteen years' experience working in hospitality, corporate and private sectors.

    Kristen Maszarose

    Program Dir/Associate Professor - Business and Accounting

    Kristen Maszarose holds a B.A. in Business from Ohio University and an M.S. in Management, Marketing specialization, from the University of Maryland University College (now known as the University of Maryland Global Campus). Her experience ranges from sales and marketing to advising at the higher education level. She has been teaching in both the online and face-to-face environment for three years. Kristen currently teaches business, marketing and personal finance courses at Carroll.​

    James Ourand

    Assistant Professor - Business and Accounting

    James (Jim) Ourand has a B.A. in Accounting from Frostburg State University and an M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Baltimore. He is an active Certified Public Accountant supporting clients in accounting, tax and business advising. For more than 30 years, he has held various positions in accounting, finance and management for large and small businesses. In 2018, he started as a full-time faculty member at Carroll teaching courses in Accounting and Finance.​
