Carroll celebrates our graduates.

Westminster, MD─ Carroll Community College (Carroll) announces 173 graduates who were awarded degrees in August and December 2023. There were 54 students graduating with academic honors, with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Twenty-one students achieved the highest honor, summa cum laude, with a GPA of 3.9 to 4.0.Twenty-three of the graduates received cum laude, while ten received magna cum laude.

“I am so proud of all of our graduates, and I look forward to hearing about their future academic and professional achievements, as well as their contributions to the communities they serve,” said Dr. James D. Ball, President, Carroll Community College.

There were nine graduates who were the first in their family to earn a college degree during this period. “Their resilience and determination in the face of challenges are truly inspiring. These students have worked hard to achieve this goal. We hope they are as proud of themselves as we are,” said April Stevens, advisor.

The graduates included one student who participated in the College’s dual enrollment program, which allows students to take classes at the College while still enrolled in high school. Peter Oskam, of Westminster, attended Westminster High School and finished his associate’s degree in December. He was a member of the Pappalardo Honors Program at the college along with being the founder and president of the Music Club.

“The cost of Carroll was the driving factor behind my decision,” said Oskam. “I currently have $0 in student debt, while most students my age cannot say the same thing. This has allowed me to get a jump start on my savings and as a whole become wiser with my spending habits.”

He is planning to continue his education at Salisbury University pursuing a degree in Geographic Information Systems. “Overall, I will miss the personal connections I had with staff members in the business and student engagement offices, I am grateful for my time at Carroll,” he said.
