Entrepreneur Job Overview
An entrepreneur identifies a need in the marketplace and comes up with an innovative business solution to fill that need and takes on both the risks and rewards of implementing their idea. As the leader of their company, an entrepreneur assumes full responsibility for the execution and success of the business on a daily basis, including creating a business plan, doing market research, developing a sales and marketing plan, developing and creating a budget, pricing and margin analysis, managing human resources, managing risk, and navigating future growth strategies.

Curriculum
Explore different topics covering essential aspects of entrepreneurship, such as recognizing and evaluating business opportunities, creating business plans, marketing strategies, financial management, and more. All classes are online/asynchronous with an assigned 1-on-1 consultant.

Prepare for your venture into entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs are most successful when equipped with knowledge and understanding of the business landscape. Find out everything you need to know to own and operate your business. Start your business on a solid foundation with core competencies including business planning, market research, budgeting and accounting, human resources, managing risk, growth strategies, and more. The course includes one-on-one consultation with a representative from your local Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the opportunity to test for the Entrepreneurship Small Business Certification, including exam and practice exams.
Full Scholarship & a Chance to Win $5,000 to Start Your Business
Maryland Business Opportunity Center (MBOC) has made full scholarship funding available for the non-credit Pathways to Entrepreneurship certificate program. The program is offered online, asynchronously, providing flexible access.
Funding is available to credit and non-credit students!
- Eligible credit students receive a scholarship to cover the full cost of the program and up to 4 billable hours of in-county credit tuition.
- Eligible non-credit students receive a scholarship to cover the full cost of the program and concurrent enrollment in related non-credit courses or workforce development programs.
- All students who complete the Pathways program leave with a business plan they can submit to the Pathways Challenge where the winning entrepreneur will receive $5,000 to start their business!
MBOC Scholarship Fund Eligibility Requirements
- Enrolled in at least 3 credits for the current semester. (Credit students only.)
- In good academic standing. (Credit students only.)
- Maryland resident.
- Currently engaged in or planning to engage in future entrepreneurial endeavors.
- Planning to enroll in Pathways to Entrepreneurship certificate program.
