Commencement is an opportunity for students to celebrate the attainment of their degrees or certificates. Of the August and December 2014 graduates and students who applied to graduate in May, we estimate over 224 students will be attending.
In August there were 81 graduates, 231 graduates in December and 289 students who have applied for May graduation.
This year's Commencement speaker is Dr. James M. Cherry, the scientific program director at a major federally funded research facility in Maryland. His professional credentials include co-developing a technology development arm of one of the National Laboratories. He has worked to develop novel technologies in several areas of biomedical research with Qiagen, including genetics and genomics expression platforms and other scientific disciplines.
Dr. Cherry serves as a scientific adviser for local high school seniors and college students that intern at his research facility. He serves on scientific advisory boards for several universities in Maryland. He has also been an adjunct professor at Hood College since 2012 and Mt. St Mary’s, and has been selected to be on the Board of Directors for a local all-girls private school in Frederick County.
“We are honored to have a Commencement speaker of Dr. Cherry’s caliber and professional background. He is exceptionally engaging and at ease with students,” said Carroll President, Dr. James D. Ball. “I believe he will inspire and motivate our graduates to continue to take bold steps in their personal and professional lives.”
Rachael Boone is this year's student speaker. While creating the educational foundation for her future career, Boone has been involved in an array of activities on campus, from being a Hill Scholar to a Student Ambassador to a Carroll student employee. Boone is graduating with an associate degree in Business Administration and will be transferring to a four-year university to complete her bachelor’s degree.
