  • Encyclopedia of World Biography Supplement - adds approximately 200 new biographies to the above source. 7 digit College ID number needed for remote access.
  • Biography.com  - produced by A & E TV network. Over 25,000 sometimes extensive biographies from a variety of fields. Easy to use, but be warned that it does include lots of ads and pop-ups.
  • Biographical Dictionary - short biographies of over 28,000 people from the past and present. Searchable by name, birth or death year, profession, achievements, etc. Advanced and keyword searching available.
  • Infoplease - Biography - over 30,000 short biographies from the publishers of the well-known almanac. Has a search engine with help & advice. Categories such as recent deaths, world rulers, athletes, women, Asian-Pacific Americans and other ethnic groups, architects, and more. Includes some ads.
  • Biography-Center  - site provides links to biographies available from other Web sites. Searchable by name in a variety of languages, or browse alphabetically for biographies in English.

Specialized Biographical Sources:

  • Time 100: The Most Important People of the Century  - Time Magazine's most "remarkable people" who "for better or worse--most influenced the last 100 years." Grouped by 5 categories: Leaders & Revolutionaries, Artists & Entertainers, Builders & Titans, Scientists & Thinkers, Heroes & Icons. Photos and three page bios.
  • World of Scientific Biography  - compiled by Eric Weisstein, PhD. Includes scientists from the past and present, in a variety of fields. Entries include a list of references.
  • Nobel Prize Internet Archives - browse by prize category or search the archive for a name or year. Includes some background information on the winners and links to additional information.
  • National Inventors Hall of Fame  - substantial biographies and pictures of hundreds of inventors. Inventors must hold U.S. patents to be included.
  • Hall of Black Achievement Gallery  - a project of Bridgewater State College. This site includes biographies of historically prominent African-Americans. Also has links to online resources for further information.
  • African-American Pioneers  - short biographical profiles of African-American pioneers of the past and present. Each month an in-depth biography is included for a featured person.
  • Women in Power: World Leaders Since 1960 - examines the experiences of women in top leadership positions from around the world. 7 digit College ID number needed for remote access.
  • Women in World History: a Biographical Encyclopedia - covers women of historical interest worldwide, from around 3100 BCE to the modern age. 7 digit College ID number needed for remote access.
  • Dead or Alive?  - up-to-date site of over 7,300 short biographies of famous people who have died recently, might plausibly be dead, or are alive. Categories include deaths in the last six months, birthdays each day, deaths before age 30, people over 85, those who lived to be 100, by sex, cause of death, statistics, and profession.
