So … you’ve switched from film to digital photography. What are all those buttons and settings, and when should you use them to get the best images? Learn to understand the camera and how it works, distinguish between automatic settings, and determine the best type of settings to use for different situations. Beyond the Snapshot: For Point and Shoot Cameras

Learn the difference between the Auto and Program settings and why the photo turned out too dark. Examples of everyday photo situations are given to show how to use the automatic settings. Crafting the Photograph

Use your SLR camera to the max! Learn the basics of 35mm single lens reflex (SLR) photography though hands-on digital and film SLR experiences. Use your own 35 mm digital or film camera to familiarize yourself with aperture settings and shutter speed, meter functions, lenses and accessories, light and composition. Includes an additional session for mid-course review of student work! This class does not focus on point-and-shoot cameras. Bring your camera to class to take photos and discuss. Focus on our Instructors

Walter P. Calahan, nationally-known freelance photographer for various advertising agencies, corporations and national magazines, brings his unique talent and 23 years of experience to his teaching.

Ken Corbran has more than 20 years of experience as a professional photographer and teaching photography classes. He started as a freelance sports photographer photographing PGA golf and USCF Cycling events, and youth soccer, hockey, and baseball leagues. Corbran’s photos capture live-action images rather than static portraits giving the viewer a sense of involvement in the sport. He has also shot corporate events, executive portraiture and architectural landscapes and has operated photography businesses in New Jersey, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania.

Carol Davis, an award-winning photographer, has studied with renowned photographers Tony Sweet and Galen Rowell. She has taught photography for more than 20 years both locally and internationally, including leading photo treks to Morocco. View Davis’ photography.

Cathy Gilleland has been working with Adobe Photoshop for more than 10 years. A member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, she teaches and leads workshops on digital imaging, as well as selling her own work and using it to promote wildlife habitat restoration through non-profit organizations.

Daniel Humphries-Russ, a professional photographer, has over 30 years’ experience including 18 years’ experience with digital photography. He worked for the Pittsburgh Press and was the master printmaker for Allied Photo Industries producing marketing materials for Fortune 500 companies, including United States Steel (USS), Alcoa, Mellon Bank, PNC Bank, Gulf Oil, Koppers and Westinghouse. Since 2008, he has concentrated on producing large format, limited edition, original fine art prints. Visit his website to view his work.

Sue Izard, owner of Izard Photography, followed her lifelong passion for image making and has worked with photography clients on a daily basis for the last seven years shooting weddings, family portraits, real estate, school, youth sports and product photography. Izard brings a variety of real life experiences to share in the classroom. She holds a master’s degree in education and has 10 years’ experience in informal and formal educational settings.

Steve Solomon, professional photographer and owner of S.V. Solomon Photography, brings 14 years of photography experience to his teaching to help students understand and create strong photographs, using the latest techniques.
