Julie Gaver, Keynote Presenter
Well known for her high energy presentation style, Julie Gaver has been professionally speaking nationwide for the past twenty years. Her self-deprecating humor and ability to connect with audiences helps to make training programs, conferences and retreats memorable.
Her training organization, Julie Gaver Training & Development, LLC, helps to create work environments, which foster higher levels of attitude, productivity, teamwork and creative thinking. Prior to starting her training organization, Gaver was Director of Marketing and Public Relations for RSM McGladrey (formerly Keller Bruner & Company) where she managed all of the marketing activities. Gaver was a part-time instructor for Dale Carnegie Systems, where she consistently earned the highest marks for effectiveness.
Gaver graduated with honors from Frostburg State University with a BA in Sociology, a minor in Psychology. In addition, she earned a master’s degree in Instructional Systems Development from University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) in Baltimore, MD. During her tenure, she co-authored a paper entitled “The Role Subject Matter Plays in the Decision to Offer Online Training,” which was published in Distance Learning.
She is a member of the National Speakers Association and a past member of Toastmasters International. Other past and present affiliations include Society for Human Resource Managers (SHRM) - Frederick and Cumberland Valley Chapters, American Society of Training & Development (ASTD) and the Mid-Atlantic Facilitators Network. Locally, Gaver is Past-Board President of Leadership Washington County. She currently serves on the boards of Cocktails for a Cause of Maryland and Woman2Woman Mentoring. Additionally, Gaver is a board member of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Washington County.
Tina Bull is director of Compliance Services for the Employee Benefits practice of PSA Financial Services. She’s responsible for managing and overseeing all activities of the Compliance Services Department. She advises on health/welfare plan design, administration and communication, with focus on current benefit laws and regulations. Her expertise includes the Internal Revenue Code, ERISA, Section 125 implementation and administration, COBRA, HIPAA, privacy and security compliance, and benefit taxation issues.
Jay R. Fries
Jay R. Fries is a partner practicing labor and employment law with Kruchko & Fries, PLC. The firm represents employers throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Fries graduated cum laude from Washington and Lee University and received his law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law of The College of William and Mary, where he served as Articles Editor of the Law Review. He was employed as a labor law specialist with the Cincinnati firm of Taft, Stettinus and Hollister before joining Kruchko & Fries.
Fries is an active member of the Labor Law Section of the Maryland State Bar, and has participated in many seminars and lectures before trade associations, Chambers of Commerce and colleges and universities in the Mid-Atlantic region. In addition, he has published numerous articles on labor and employment law issues for professional and trade journals.
Scott Mayer is Vice President of Data Analytics for Workforce Tactix, Inc. in Sparks, MD. He focuses on using data analytics and predictive modeling aimed at lowering risk, increasing efficiency and reducing costs. Mayer sits on the executive board of the Baltimore AHU and recently sat on an advisory committee helping design the navigator program for Maryland’s Health Insurance Exchange. Mayer holds a bachelor’s degree in math and physics from Cornell University.
David Noel is the Vice President of Sales at Workforce Tactix, Inc specializing in employer group benefit programs and deploying data mining programs and predictive analytics to manage the utilization of an employer’s insured population. He is currently the immediate past-president of the Baltimore Association of Health Underwriters (BAHU) and the President of the Maryland Association of Health Underwriters (MAHU), both are chapters of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU). Additionally, Noel serves on the Broker Advisory Committee to the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange.
Jeanne Sherwood is the founder and CEO of WellAdvantage, a Baltimore based, woman owned provider of Corporate Wellness Programs. It was through her work as an Intensive Care Nurse with Saint Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, that she was inspired to create WellAdvantage as a way to help the working population avoid illness due to unhealthy lifestyles. Sherwood co-chairs the House of Ruth’s Annual Women’s Golf Outing and is the Honorary Chair for the Office of Minority and Women-Owned Business Development for 2012.
Henry Smith is a partner of Smith & Downey, a law firm with a national practice concentrating in employee benefits, executive compensation, and labor and employment law. Smith & Downey has offices in Baltimore, New York, Washington, Charleston and Sarasota/Bradenton. He is an attorney who, for over 30 years, has advised employers, of all types and sizes, on employee benefit plans and executive compensation arrangements.
