HIST-298, Special Topic, Why the Civil War Still Lives
HIST-298, Why the Civil War Still Lives, surveys the continuing influences of the American Civil War on major political, military, economic, social and cultural trends in the United States from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. Focusing not only upon the lingering differences between the societies of the North and the South, but upon why the war, more than any other era in the American past, continues to exert a powerful influence, ranging from the divisive to the patriotic. Prerequisite: exemption/completion of READ-099. Three hours lecture each week. Three credits. Three billable hours.
