Carroll Community College Offers Performances of “Romeo & Juliet”
Westminster, Md., A modern presentation of the Shakespearean classic “Romeo & Juliet” will be offered at Carroll Community College. The performances will be held May 1 at 7:30 p.m., May 2 at 7:30 p.m., May 3 at 7:30 p.m. and May 4 at 2:00 p.m. “Romeo & Juliet” will be directed by Chair of Performing Arts Bill Gillett. Admission is $5 for students/seniors/faculty/staff and $10 for general admission audiences.
“In the midst of a bloody feud, fragile love unfolds. Filled with all the passion and turbulence of young love, this timeless story of star-crossed lovers is a masterpiece of poetry and a whirlwind of emotion. Come and fall in love once more with Shakespeare’s most famous couple,” said Gillett.
“The beauty of Shakespeare’s plays is that they can withstand the poetic license used by play directors, yet still continue to convey meaning and thrill audiences,” said Gillett. “In addition, some audience members feel distanced by Shakespeare. Sometimes a new presentation can bring new meaning to Shakespeare’s plays. So to help the play become more understandable, we present our version of this play. Using a new environment for the performance, I hope to make it more relatable and enjoyable. I’ve very much enjoyed bringing to life this play with our group of actors.”
