Carroll Community College Nursing Program Director Honored by Department of Defense for Extraordinary Support of Employees Serving in the Maryland Guard and Reserve
Westminster, Md., --Maryland Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense agency, announced that Dr. Nancy Perry, DNP, RN, CNE was honored with a Patriot Award.
Dr. Perry is Director of the Nursing Program at Carroll Community College (Carroll). The award recognizes Perry’s extraordinary support of her employee, Lt. Jody McIntosh, who serves in the Maryland Guard and Reserve. McIntosh is an assistant professor in the Nursing Department at Carroll and teaches Nursing Concepts 2, Nursing Concepts 3, and Nursing Concepts Clinical 4. She is also in the U.S. Navy Reserve and is based at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.
According to Dan Borleis, Maryland ESGR Employer Outreach, “The Patriot Award was created to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees. Dr. Perry was nominated for being highly supportive of the National Guard by Lt. Jody McIntosh, her Reserve Component employee. Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”
“Dr. Perry supported me through the process of becoming a commissioned officer by providing for release time and allowing me to take time out of my Carroll job for training to become a lieutenant,” said McIntosh. “Dr. Perry is very supportive of medical military personnel. She was an integral component of the process I participated in to become part of that military community, including two weeks of boot camp.”
“I am exceptionally proud of Dr. Perry for her supportive role in the preparation of Jody McIntosh to serve in the Guard and Reserve,” said College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo.
“Dr. Perry has demonstrated that she understands the importance of our military medical community and has made it possible for one of our instructors to share medical best practices with that community,” said College Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Dr. James Ball.
ESGR is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972 to develop and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service.
