Tutoring & Study Skills

Whether a student needs help in mastering math concepts or understanding coursework, tutoring can make the difference between a feeling or success or a feeling of frustration. The Academic Center has a variety of tutoring aids to help with college classes, ranging from peer and professional tutoring, to video and computer tutorials.

These tutoring services are available to Carroll students free of charge:

  • Tutoring, by appointment, for Carroll courses
  • Writing consultant: Drop-in tutoring for papers in any class. If you have questions about a paper in any class, visit the writing consultant. Questions may be about any phase of the paper, such as developing an outline, writing a thesis statement, using commas, etc. The writing consultant is available Monday through Thursday each week, with locations in the library and the Academic Center.   • Drop-in tutoring for college math courses. A math tutor is available in the Academic Center to answer questions about math problems and solutions several days each week. Contact the Academic Center for current hours by calling 410-386-8300.
  • Lab experiences for transitional reading
  • Resources for help in math and English


How do I apply for other tutoring?


If you are experiencing difficulty in one of your classes, first meet with your instructor during office hours. To make an appointment, please download, print, and complete a tutor request form (PDF) and drop it off at the Academic Center . We will contact you soon to set up an appointment.

How can I become a tutor?


Contact the Academic Center for full information. To qualify, you must have earned a grade of “B” or higher in the subject area in which you wish to tutor. In addition, you will need one faculty reference and a strong desire to assist others academically.
