Deciding on what career path to pursue can sometimes be a challenge, especially since there are so many choices in today's workplace. Carroll provides the following services to help students decide which career path to investigate.

Additional Guidance - discover other career development opportunities
Job boards and career fairs are open to the community; however, we are unable to provide counseling services to individuals who are not enrolled credit students. Services are available to community members at the Business Employment Resource Center in Westminster by calling 410-386-2820.
Career Workshops
Career Development is a lifetime journey. Most people change career paths three or four times during their lives. Our career workshops help you make important decisions.
If you are uncertain about how to begin making a career decision, writing a resume, and organizing for a job search, attend any of our workshops and schedule a follow-up appointment with the career coordinator to discuss your specific needs.
National Career Development Week is from Nov. 16 - 20 and the following workshops are scheduled to celebrate. Each time you attend an event, enter the daily drawing for a gift card. Space is limited and registration is required. Room assignments are provided at the time of registration. To register, call Career Development at 410-386-8523.
- Make a Major Decision: What do you need to know to make a decision about your major? What can you do with that major? What is a minor? Get the answers to these and others to Make a Major Decision. Monday, Nov. 16 at 3:30 p.m.
- Resume: Advertisers have just 30 seconds to sell a product and your resume is no different. Most employers scan resumes for 30 seconds to decide if they want to interview someone. Learn to market your special talents and experiences that will make them want to know more about you. Wednesday Nov. 18 at 3:30 p.m.
- Money Matters: How savvy are you about credit and finances? Learn to avoid the pitfalls of debt while planning your future. Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m.
- Is a Health Care Career for You? Interested in a health care career, but not sure if it's right for you? There are hundreds of careers available. Prepare now to find the one that is right for you. Thursday, Nov. 19 at 3:30 p.m.
- Portfolio Development: Portfolios are not just for artists. Having one can give you the edge over other candidates. Learn what to include and how to organize your materials. Friday Nov. 20 at 1:30 p.m.
- Tell me something about yourself (Interviewing): It's a hard question to answer for most people. What do they want to know? Learn and practice the answer to this and other tough questions. Friday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m.
Advice and a Slice
Wellness Career Panel, Student Center
With so many health careers to choose from how will you decide? While noshing on pizza, get advice and information from five professionals as they give brief introductions to a variety of health fields. Learn about EDMR, biofeedback, massage therapy, occupational therapy and exercise physiology. Select a health professional to meet with in a breakout session to learn more! Return to the Student Center and select another session. Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m.
Career Cafe
The Career Cafe is open throughout the fall and spring semester in the Great Hall! Come for free coffee and career information. Information is available on career planning, resumes, job searching and interviewing.

Internships
Internships are a valuable method to gain experience in a career field. Internships can be paid, unpaid or for credit. Currently Carroll does not offer internships for credit. However, you can research and learn about opportunities by registering with internships.com. To register, follow these instructions:
- Visit www.internships.com or click on the link in the right column.
- Click on Students and then click Join the Network.
- Select Carroll Community College from the drop down menu, enter the Promo Code "cccinternships01," and click Continue.
- Register by entering your first name, last name and e-mail address, create a password, and click Sign Up. Confirm your e-mail address and password on the next page and then click Login. You can now begin to search for internships!
Additional Guidance
- Sign-up for CAR-100, Career Development as a Life Process. This three-credit course helps you to set career goals and learn skills that contribute to lifelong career aspirations. The course if offered every fall and spring term.
- Computer-assisted career guidance is available in Career Services at A201. Internet-accessible computers with suggested sites to explore are available for use. Some guidance programs, like DISCOVER, are available from a home computer via the Internet.
- An Opportunities Fair is scheduled each fall. Learn about specific majors, Academic Communities, and how non-profit agencies can help you reach your goals! A Job Fair is scheduled each spring. The 2010 Job Fair will be held Wednesday March 24. Registration forms for employers will be available in January.
- Current occupational information is available in the Advising Office in room A102 and in the Carroll Community College library. Jobs are posted on the Job Board in the Student Center and through our virtual job board on College Central Network. Check out the career links on our page as well as Employment Services for other opportunities to connect with employers.
- Walk yourself through the Phases of Career Development for a step-by-step approach to career decision-making.
