Veterinary CSI (ages 9 - 11)
What do you do when you find a dog hit by a car? Use your detective skills to assess the injuries, and learn what you can do to help. Explore diagnostic tools, treatment procedures, and animal handling in a veterinary setting. Learn hands-on skills like how to bandage an injured limb, and use a stethoscope to diagnose conditions of the heart, lungs and abdomen. Take a look at how specialized equipment is used for injured animals, and explore preventative care for your healthy ones. There will be animals in class, so prepare for live animal action! This camp is for those who completed Vet CSI 1 and are ready for the next level. Learn about animal anatomy and how everything works together in the healthy animal. Explore fluid therapies, and set up your own IV bags and fluid rates. Become your own surgeon as we explore sterile techniques and how to put on surgical gowns and gloves. Practice your suturing techniques using real suture materials. Learn to become a real animal medic as we perform animal CPR. Explore animal conservation, and enjoy a special field trip. Television and Screen Acting (ages 8 - 11)
From the first time you said "let’s pretend," you were learning to act. Yet the art of acting is a true craft, one that the masters learn, practice and hone. The greatest actors take the audience on a journey with them. Learn auditioning, scene blocking, understanding context, learning lines, script reading and working with a director and the camera, refining each and every take. Special emphasis focuses on commercial shots, television and movie scenes, and the use of improv as a learning technique. Your headshots, resumes and commercials will be hosted on a website to share with friends and family! In this collaborative camp, you will work in teams for most of the camp. Class size is limited. Make It Go: Cars (ages 6 - 9)
Experiment, invent and fabricate unique wooden and plastic model cars and self-propelled rolling vehicles! Bring your busy hands and imaginations to make original, high quality toys. Use real hand tools to cut, shape, sand and finish your projects. For girls and boys who love to invent, draw and build! You will design, modify and race a series of vehicles including a flat car and a vehicle with elastic “motor.” All while learning problem solving skills, shop math and order of operation. NEW! Young Woodshop Apprentice (ages 9 - 11)
Become a woodworker! Each apprentice completes three high quality personal projects. Apprentices practice following plans; accurate measurements; and marking, cutting, drilling and shaping with hand tools. Every project is sanded, personalized with applied wooden features, and protected with hand rubbed finishes. Hand tools are used, with an emphasis on safety and craftsmanship.
