Crafting the Photograph
Use your SLR camera to the max! Learn the basics of 35 mm single lens reflex (SLR) photography though hands-on digital and film SLR experiences. Use your own 35 mm digital or film camera to familiarize yourself with aperture settings and shutter speed, meter functions, lenses and accessories, light and composition. This course includes an additional session for mid-course review of student work! Note: not for point-and-shoot cameras. Bring your camera to class to take photos to discuss. Prerequisite: Operating a Digital Camera.

Learn how and when to apply basic camera techniques to create accomplished photographs of people, animals, landscapes, plants and still life. Digital Photo Restoration & Retouching
Restore a piece of your history! Restore faded or damaged heirloom photos or modern portraits for framing or scrapbooking. Or, create a collage for a wedding or birthday using pictures from the early years of the special guest. Learn to make copies of a special image to share with each family member. Using Photoshop techniques, your treasured photos will not be touched; only the digital versions will be altered to improve their quality. Some experience with Photoshop helpful but is not required. Al Arnold, a skilled teacher and photographer with 27 years experience, shoots nature shots throughout the U.S. and exhibits locally.

Walter P. Calahan; nationally-known freelance photographer for various advertising agencies, corporations and national magazines; brings his unique talent and 23 years of experience to his teaching.

Leslie Blauhut Chesley, owner of Bluehat Studios Photography, helps business clients easily get from headshot to marketing collateral. Leslie constantly explores how to blend the traditional values of photography with modern technology and digital demands for both business and personal clients. She shares her years of experience running a small business as an instructor and project developer for Carroll.

Cathy Gilleland, a member of the National Association of Photoshop Pro-fessionals, has been working with Adobe Photoshop for more than 10 years. She teaches and leads workshops on digital imaging, as well as selling her own work and using it to promote wildlife habitat restoration through non-profit organizations. 

Daniel Humphries-Russ, a professional photographer, has over 30 years experience including 18 years experience with digital photography. He worked for the Pittsburgh Press and was the master printmaker for Allied Photo Industries producing marketing materials for Fortune 500 companies, including United States Steel (USS), Alcoa, Mellon Bank, PNC Bank, Gulf Oil, Koppers and Westinghouse. Since 2008, he has concentrated on producing large format, limited edition, original fine art prints.

Steve Solomon, professional photographer and owner of S.V. Solomon Photography, brings 14 years of photography experience to his teaching to help students understand and create strong photographs, using the latest techniques.
