Instructors to Write Home About
Lois Szymanski has authored 20 children's books, including fiction for young and middle school aged readers, nonfiction and picture books. Her short stories have appeared in a long list of children's magazines, including Highlights for Children, U*S*Kids Magazine, Turtle Magazine for Preschoolers and Hopscotch Magazine for Girls. Szymanski presents writer's workshops at various colleges, literary gatherings and Society of Children's Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) events of which she is the Co-Regional Advisor of the MD/DE/WV chapter.She cherishes time spent in the classroom.
Szymanski helped create The Feather Fund in memory of her friend, Carollynn Suplee, who purchased a foal for a child annually during the eight years she survived cancer as a way of giving back for the gift of life. This 503c nonprofit helps children purchase Chincoteague Pony foals. Raising a foal teaches kids to work for what they love.
Julie Castillo has a M.A. in Sociocultural Anthropology. She has been a teacher, writer, editor and writing consultant. She brings her expertise and warm, dynamic style to help students gain the tools that help enrich their writing.
Arlene Karidis has 30 years’ writing and editing experience and contributes to regional and national magazines, newspapers and blogs. She has written and edited memoirs and teaches several college writing courses. Karidis has managed corporate and public relations communications and publications projects.
