The Associate of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education - English option provides the opportunity for a seamless transfer to to English Education programs at Maryland four-year state and private colleges. To receive the degree, students must have a 2.750 GPA, begin development of their professional teaching portfolio, and pass the Praxis I or present qualifying scores (see page 108 in the College Catalog) to the Records Office prior to the final Carroll term. Students are encouraged to earn a minimum grade of C in all A.A.T. course requirements to ensure a smooth transfer and work with an Education faculty advisor.
The Introduction to Special Education course required by Carroll is a necessary requirement of the A.A.T. degree, but is not sufficient to meet all special education or inclusion course requirements for four-year teacher education programs. Students may be required to take additional special education or inclusion courses as part of the requirements for a baccalaureate degree and teacher education certification at four-year institutions.
* Students must be in good academic standing in order to participate in field experiences; one field experience allowed each term.
