Course Description

CHIN-102, Elementary Chinese 2, is a continuation of CHIN 101, Elementary Chinese 1, with emphasis on reading and writing skills and developing cultural awareness of the Chinese-speaking people and expanding one's world view. Prerequisite: exemption/completion of CHIN-101; one year of high school Chinese will meet the prerequisite with an academic advisor's approval. Three hours lecture each week. Three credits. Three billable hours. DIVERSITY/WORLD VIEW. GENERAL EDUCATION Offered Spring term.

Course Objectives and Grading Information

Upon completion of CHIN-102, students will be able to:   

1. demonstrate increased awareness, knowledge and understanding of the culture of the Chinese-speaking people (PG1, PG5, GE2, GE6) 

2. communicate in exchanging meaningful dialogue, using grammatical structures and vocabulary to attain better oral proficiency (PG3, PG4, GE1, GE2) 

3. refine accuracy of pronunciation skills using the Chinese language (PG4, GE1) 

4. read and comprehend cultural reading selections approriate to the intermediate level (PG1, PG5, GE2, GE6) 

5. write comprehensive paragraphs and descriptions on given topics demonstrating increased improvement in writing ability (PG2, GE1)
