ENGL-235, Detective Fiction
ENGL-235, Detective Fiction, investigates the development, themes, conventions, and cultural influence of this popular genre from its modern beginnings in the 19th century with an emphasis on works by American writers and representative British writers. Writers to be studied may include Poe, Doyle, Chandler, Hammett, and others. Selected films and audiotapes supplement course lecture and discussion. Students in this course will contribute additional writing and reflection to their Carroll Community College writing portfolios. Prerequisite: successful completion of or exemption from ENGL-101, or consent of the instructor. Three hours lecture each week. Three credits. Three billable hours.
