Course Description

BUAD-150, Human Relations, examines the interactions that exist between people within organizations. Students will examine the relationship between behavior, human relations, and performance; the components of effective interpersonal and organizational communications; motivation and leadership; strategies for effectively working within an organization; organizational group and team dynamics; change management and personal and career development. Prerequisite: exemption/completion of READ-091. Three hours lecture each week. Three credits. Three billable hours. DIVERSITY/WORLD VIEW

COURSE OBJECTIVES:  Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 

1. Describe the historical development of the study of human relations and its contemporary importance in the workplace. (BUAD PG 1) 

2. Understand the different concepts and theories of human relations. (BUAD PG 1) 

3. Explain the importance of human relation skills to individuals and organizations in which they work. (BUAD PG 1) 

4. Develop and hone human relation skills in your personal and professional life. (GE GOAL 7, BUAD PG 1) 

5. Understand the impact of personality and attitudes on employee performance. (GE GOAL 7, BUAD PG 1) 

6. Examine theories and styles of motivation and leadership through history. (BUAD PG 1) 

7. Describe the importance of power, organizational politics and ethics in performance. (GE GOAL 7, BUAD PG 1) 

8. Understand the use of teams and participation in problem solving and decision making. (GE GOAL 7, BUAD PG 1)
