Course Description
ART-125, Art Appreciation, gives attention to the parameters of art in our everyday life and to the influences of art and design on our society. Concern is given to the historic, ethnic, and contemporary social influences on art. In addition, guidelines for the critical analysis of art forms and for the consideration of aesthetic preferences are covered. Prerequisite: exemption/completion of READ-101. Three hours lecture each week. Three credits. Three billable hours. GENERAL EDUCATION
Course Objectives and Grading Information
Course Objectives Upon successful completion of ART-125 (C or better), the student will have met the following objectives:
1. Define and use appropriate terminology related to art media, periods and styles in both verbal discussion and written assignments. (GE 1)
2. Identify key works of art matching them to artist, period style and culture. (GE 2)
3. Identify the elements and principles of design in works of art. (GE 2)
4. Attend and /or participate in a visual art event. (GE 7)
5. Analyze and defend value judgments using college-level writing skills in a critical review. (GE 1, 2)
6. Demonstrate understanding of the concept of art as a societal and cultural mirror. (GE 6)
