The Child Development Center serves faculty, staff, students and the community with children ages two to five years. Staff members teach the importance of exploration and play while integrating math, science, language, literacy, music, art and essential motor activities. Emphasis is placed on each child's learning style by an active, hands-on process that builds problem-solving and thinking skills.

The center is located in Carroll's new classroom building, K building , on the south side of the campus. The recent relocation allows the center to expand its capacity and services and evolve into a "lab" setting for student teachers and other research professionals.

Just as famous early childhood education expert Maria Montessori observes, educators send children into the world prepared and ready. "Free the child's potential and you will transform him into the world," said Montessori.

Lab School Component

The center also serves as a place for professionals to observe young children and refine their education skills. College and community research by students, families, psychologists, early childhood education departments, and other professionals is a priority. Opportunities abound for observation, discussion and assessment.

Inclement Weather

The center adheres to the college weather closing and opening announcements. The county needs time to clean the parking lots and walks for safe access, so parents and children should arrive as close to the opening time as possible. The staff arrives 15 minutes prior to opening to prepare. Please arrive at the announced time so that the staff is ready to receive your children.
