Carroll Community College Students Offer Income Tax Preparation Assistance for Qualified Participants
Westminster, Md.,— Carroll Community College will be preparing income tax returns for members of the community through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Returns are prepared free of charge for qualified individuals by trained and certified students from Feb. 1 through April 15, 2013.
VITA offers free assistance to those with low-to-moderate incomes, including persons with disabilities and the elderly. Taxpayers who qualify and who file Form 1040EZ, Form 1040A, or basic Form 1040 federal tax returns are invited to inquire about this service. In many cases, returns can be filed electronically.
All tax preparation is by appointment. To schedule an appointment, contact Linda Brandt at 410-386-8242 or via e-mail at email@example.com. Both day and evening appointments are available.
Items to bring to your appointment include:
- photo identification
- Social Security or ITIN card
- wage and earning statements (W-2) from all employers
- interest statements from banks (Form 1099)
- Social Security statement, if you are collecting Social Security
- other relevant information about income and expenses
- a copy of last year’s tax return, if available
