Carroll Community College Appoints New Dean
Westminster, Md., Carroll Community College (Carroll) has appointed Robert Brown dean of Business, Mathematics, and Sciences, effective July 1, 2010. He replaces Judy Coen, who is retiring June 30, 2010. Coen worked for the college in various capacities starting in 1976, when Carroll was a branch campus of Catonsville Community College (now CCBC).
"I am confident that Dean Brown will bring creative energy and wonderful new ideas to his position," said College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo.
"Robert Brown is immensely qualified for his new position as dean," said Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs Dr. James Ball. "He brings a breadth and depth of knowledge to the position that is unique and highly effective."
As the new dean, Brown will be responsible for supervising the chairs in the disciplines in his area. He will also continue to co-chair the Self-Study report to Middle States Commission for Higher Education with Dr. Michael Kiphart, dean of Students at Carroll. Brown is a former chair of Mathematics at Carroll.
"One of my early priorities will be to work with other college faculty and staff to better utilize our current technological resources in the decision-making processes at all levels," said Brown.
Brown has worked at the college since January, 2000. He is a 1991 graduate of Westminster High School. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Western Maryland College (1995) and a Master of Science in Mathematics at Michigan State University (1997). Brown and his family live in the Union Mills/Silver Run area of Carroll County.
