Colleges Work Collaboratively on Westminster Clean-Up Project 2010
Westminster, Md., March 9, 2010-On Saturday, April 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., over 100 volunteers are expected to join together for Westminster Clean-Up Project 2010, a joint effort between Carroll (Carroll) Community College and McDaniel College (McDaniel).
The effort is organized by the Maryland Campus Compact Americorps VISTA coordinators at each college. Jeana Biondo is the VISTA at Carroll and Siri Hiltz is the VISTA at McDaniel. A VISTA is a Volunteer In Service To America. VISTAs dedicate a year of their life to fight poverty, according to Biondo.
Biondo and Hiltz are seeking more volunteers to paint, mulch, weed, and garden throughout various areas of Westminster. The city will provide supplies for the volunteer work. Volunteers will be identified as part of the project through team t-shirts.
The event will be held rain or shine and some projects will move to indoor locations in the event of inclement weather. Light refreshments will be provided at the start of Westminster Clean-Up Project 2010. Volunteers will handle their assignments for three hours. The morning concludes with an appreciation lunch.
Pre-registration no later than March 26 is required if volunteers wish to receive a t-shirt. To pre-register or ask questions about the starting location for the event, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
