Carroll Community College Foundation Holds Annual Random House Book Fair
Westminster, Md., Feb. 2, 2010-The Annual Random House Book Fair will be held on Saturday, March 6 at Carroll Community College in Westminster, Md. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This annual event combines a love for books and reading with family activities, which has become a Carroll county tradition. Proceeds from this signature fundraiser for the Carroll Community College Foundation benefit student scholarships at the college.
"I am overjoyed with the partnership between Carroll Community College and Random House," said College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo. "Together, we provide a fine literary and family event to visitors from the county and the region who wish to support student scholarships through their patronage. I continue to say that this extraordinary event would not be possible without Random House."
National authors will conduct book discussions and book signings. National authors include children's author Emily Jenkins, bird and tree expert David Sibley, mystery writer Karin Slaughter, and cookbook authors Kaye and Liv Hansen. Local authors will also be signing their books and greeting patrons.
A silent auction will be held throughout the day in the college's Great Hall. Discounted books will also be sold throughout the day. While supplies last, free books will be given to children, and a reading resource area will highlight books and materials that encourage reading among young children.
Children's activities will be held in the Student Center and in the Gymnasium. The Carroll County Public Library will host "Children's Story Time." Professor Wizard's Wonders of Science will once again captivate audiences of all ages.
The Student Writing Contest winners will read their works in the Theater in the Scott Center with family and friends in the audience.
An edible cake judging will take place in the Great Hall with national cookbook authors Kaye and Liv Hansen, who will judge cakes with a book theme created by Career and Technology Center students.
A kick-off to the Annual Random House Book Fair will be held on Friday, March 5, with two showings of the movie "Planet 51" at 4:30 and 7 p.m. "Coffeehouse Readings" will take place that evening at 7 p.m.
