Carroll Community College Provides New
Mediation Services to the Community

Westminster, Md., Aug. 21, 2009--The Carroll County Community Mediation Center (CCCMC) is pleased to announce two new services being provided in  Carroll County. CCCMC services are provided under the auspices of Carroll Community College.

Re-Entry Services
The CCCMC is now offering monthly conflict resolution skills trainings to inmates at the Central Maryland Correctional Facility in Sykesville.  This two- hour training is designed to give participants an understanding of how they view conflict, how this perspective impacts the outcomes of disputes, and includes basic listening skills participants can use on a daily basis.
The CCCMC also offers inmates who are scheduled to be released in six months or less the opportunity to have up to three mediation sessions with whomever they will be reconnecting with before they are released.  Once released, participants are connected with their local community mediation center for future services.

Independent Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting facilitation
Starting in September, 2009 the CCCMC will provide Independent Individualized Education Program (IEP) facilitators for IEP meetings when requested by the parent(s) or the Carroll County Public School (CCPS) system.  The Independent IEP facilitators are highly trained and
experienced mediators from the CCCMC.  The role of the facilitator is to talk to the parents and the IEP chairperson in advance of the meeting to support participants and help keep the discussion focused during the meeting.  The facilitator supports collaborative dialogue and decision-making in the IEP meetings.
