Psychology Synergy Conference Held At College

National Psychology Synergy Conference
Scheduled at Carroll Community College

Carroll Community College will be the host of the third annual National Psychology Synergy Conference on Oct. 17 and 18, 2008. The event is co-sponsored by Psi Beta and Psi Chi. Psi Beta is the national honor society in psychology for community colleges. The Carroll Community College Chapter is the host. Psi Chi is the national honor society in psychology and the McDaniel College Chapter is the co-host.

The conference has been designed for students, professionals, businesses, and community members. Sessions include presentations on addiction, knowledge of the brain, treatment of the mentally ill, the role of commitment in romantic relationships, and other topics.

Two of the sessions are approved for three continuing education hours each by the Maryland Board of Social Workers for Level 1 Social Workers and the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. There will be a minimal additional cost to take these classes for continuing education credits.

The conference highlight presentation is Michael Mack's performance of
"Hearing Voices (Speaking in Tongues)", to be performed on Friday evening, at 7:30 in the Scott Theatre. Details about his performance can be found at www.michaelmacklive.com.
 
The cost for students and 2008 graduates is $25 with a valid student ID. The cost for non-students is $45.Early registration takes place by Oct. 6, 2008. The registration form can be found online at www.psibeta.org or call Connie Skewers at 410-386-8257 to receive a conference brochure.

On another front, Carroll Community College's Psi Beta Chapter has won the Outstanding Psi Beta Chapter of the Year Award. The chapter will receive a plaque and $300 will be presented during the American Psychological Association national convention. The winning chapter's essay, 'Why We are A Successful Chapter,' will be published in the Psi Beta Chapter Handbook.
