Carroll Community College Invites Students to Participate in
Tenth Annual Random House Book Fair Student Writing Contest

The Tenth Annual Random House Book Fair to benefit the Carroll Community College Foundation is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006.   An exciting component of the Book Fair is the Student Writing Contest (SWC).   This year's contest is sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Carroll County.

The contest is open to all students in public, private, and parochial schools, and to home-schooled students, in Carroll County. Students in grades one to twelve are invited to enter a previously unpublished short story and/or poem in the SWC.   Each entry should have only one author and only one entry per author is allowed in each category.   The entry deadline is Friday, May 19, 2006.   There will be a first, second, and third place winner in each category at each grade level.   Random House will publish the winning selections.   Each winning author will be offered the opportunity to read an excerpt of his or her work during the Book Fair in November.

This is an excellent opportunity for young people to get involved with the Book Fair, be creative, and challenge themselves.   Last year we received an incredible response with more than 600 entries for the contest!   Parents of previous winners say their children have been excited and proud to see their winning entries in publication.

To participate, simply download the criteria sheet and cover sheet at the college website at http://www.carrollcc.edu/events/bookfair.asp.

The criteria sheet provides all of the contest rules and instructions; the cover sheet must be filled out and turned in with each entry.    If you have questions, please contact Kathy Mayan at (410) 386-8155 or kmayan@carrollcc.edu.
