Carroll Community College Hosts Dancing Wheels Performance
Though society may not always accept people with differences, the world of dance embraces everyone who appreciates this art form. That's why Carroll Community College (Carroll) will host a very special dance performance called Dancing Wheels on April 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the Theater in the Scott Center. The performance is sponsored for the first time by The Alliance, a college club with 25 members that focuses on diversity and acceptance of others.
Dancing Wheels features standing dancers, and seated dancers in wheelchairs, and offers a message of inclusion, diversity, and self-esteem. The seated dancers demonstrate they can be as creative and active as anyone without a disability.
"Sponsoring this performance reinforces the college president's initiative of diversity by bringing groups of people to campus who may otherwise be viewed as different," said Sharon Main, advisor to The Alliance. "This event will be inspiring for everyone, since they will see how dance has become an important part of self-expression.
Other activities sponsored by The Alliance in past years include a traveling exhibit called "Love Makes a Family," debates on relevant issues, social events, and participation in the college's Advocacy Day in Annapolis each spring.
Carroll Community College is located at 1601 Washington Rd. in Westminster, Md.
