Carroll Community College Dedicates the Dwight and Linda Hikel Business Training Center
A dedication ceremony was held on March 28, 2007, of the Dwight and Linda Hikel Business Training Center, in honor of the Hikels' contribution to the college. In September 2005, Dwight and Linda Hikel pledged a $250,000 contribution to Carroll to be given over five years.
"I am deeply grateful for the generous support of Dwight and Linda Hikel. The Hikel's are role models in the business community as supporters of higher education and of the mission to improve lives through learning," said Dr. Faye Pappalardo, president of Carroll Community College.
From the financial support of the Hikels' pledge, $100,000 will be used to fund initiatives in instructional technology, $100,000 will be used to build a scholarship fund for business training students and $50,000 will be used for a scholarship in memory of Dwight Hikels' father, (Col. Nolan G. Hikel) to be used as an endowment for credit students.
Dwight Hikel is the president of Shelter Systems Limited, a Westminster-based manufacturer of
roof and floor truss systems for residential and commercial projects. Shelter Systems was founded in 1976.
"The Hikel's have a long relationship with the college which started through their strong belief in training of staff," said Steven Wantz, executive director of Institutional Development and Carroll Community College Foundation. "The Hikel's have used the services of continuing education for more than 10 years."
Dwight and Linda Hikel invited management, staff, and their families, to participate in an honorary reception held after the dedication.
