Carroll Students Complete Pharmacy Technician Training
Seven students at Carroll Community College completed the 99-hour Pharmacy Technician Training course March 27, 2007 and are now prepared to sit for a national certification exam. The students who completed the training are Cindy Egan, Kathleen Skinner, Robin Upperman, Carolyn Meeks, Lorraine Bowie, Katherine Garrett and Nancy Ehlers.
Passing a national certification exam qualifies a pharmacy technician to register with the State of Maryland as a certified pharmacy technician. As of July 1, 2007 the Maryland Board of Pharmacy will require that all pharmacy technicians be registered with the state in order to practice.
Pharmacy technicians are in high demand. According to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics the need for pharmacy techs is expected to grow much faster than average through 2014. Pharmacy technicians work in hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted-living facilities as well as retail or mail-order pharmacies.
To register for the Pharmacy Technician course call the Continuing Education Office at 410-386-8100 or visit the college web site at www.carrollcc.edu.
