Carroll Community College Collects Emergency
Kits for Victims of Hurricane Katrina
From Monday, Sept. 12 through Friday, Sept. 23, Carroll Community College (Carroll) is working to supply urgently needed donated items to the Gulf States hit by Hurricane Katrina. The college, located at 1601 Washington Rd. in Westminster, is a collection site for these donations.
Church World Service, operating through its warehouse in New Windsor, will coordinate the delivery of "Health Kits" of personal hygiene items to survivors.
Pre-prepared kits (see suggestions below) will be collected in boxes located inside Carroll's covered walkway, accessed through the main entrance to the college. The public is invited to join college faculty, students, and staff in this relief project.
"Citizens of Carroll County and members of the college community have always been most generous and giving when it comes to helping others. I know that will be the case with donations for this effort. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, in advance, for their caring and consideration of those who have so little at this time in their lives," said College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo.
The health kits should include, in a clear, zippered one-gallon plastic bag:
One hand towel
One metal nail file or nail clipper
One bar of soap [bath size]
One tube of toothpaste [4 to 7 ounces]
Financial contributions to help pay for shipping and dissemination of the kits are also appreciated. Checks payable to Church World Service may be dropped off at the college business office located in the Great Hall.
The college is open 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. from Monday through Thursday; 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday; and 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
