Carroll Community College Offers MSDE-Approved Reading Courses for Teachers
In the spring and summer of 2007, Carroll Community College will offer reading courses for teachers seeking early childhood/elementary certification and renewal, and secondary certification and renewal. The courses are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
Faculty will offer classroom instruction, project-based assignments, individual conferencing, and online instruction.
The reading courses are approved by MSDE to meet the new reading course work requirements for teachers. Teachers may be eligible for reimbursement by Carroll County Public Schools, if the courses are required for initial certification or certification renewal.
For early childhood/elementary certification and renewal, courses include Processes and Acquisition of Reading (Jan. 29-March March 12) and Materials for Teaching Reading (March 19-May 7). This will be offered in seven-week formats on Mondays from 4 to 6:30 p.m. For secondary certification and renewal, courses include Teaching Reading in the Content Area, Part I and Teaching Reading in the Content Area, Part II. Part I will be offered Wednesday evenings from Feb. 1 through March 14. Part II will be held via the Internet from Jan. 29 through May 18.
In addition, Carroll offers courses for conditional teachers completing their MSDE certification. They include Educational Psychology, Assessment in Education and Special Education. These courses will be offered during the Spring Term beginning the week of Jan. 29 and ending May 18.
